What Up Mang Announce Debut Album ‘Golden Hour’ Out 11/18, Share “Go To Waste” Video

San Francisco indie electronic pop band What Up Mang have released a new music video for “Go To Waste,” the first single from their highly anticipated debut album, Golden Hour, out 11/18 on Smoothspin Records. The video was directed by fellow Lower Haight visual artist Curse of the Derse and features two animated hobos chasing buried treasure and a monkey butler through George Washington’s nostril on Mt. Rushmore. Watch the video above or on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUFefxLWDMs

According to What Up Mang bandleader James Carnes, Golden Hour is a true San Francisco communal effort and features several of Carnes’s fellow Lower Haight residents, including neighbor Baby Wonder (Caty McKenna) on vocals and his landlord Scott Mayfield on synthesizers. McKenna’s husband, lifestyle photographer Stian Rasmussen, (also a Lower Haight resident) shot the cover. The album’s intricate and dense sound is colored with layers of soaring synths, percolating dance beats, psychedelic soundscapes, and Beatles-esque pop melodies. According to Carnes, the album’s title is a reference to “those rare fleeting moments when good friends, a glowing sunset, and an abundance of hope for the future leave you feeling that life, right now – is golden.”

You can download Golden Hour’s first single, Go To Waste, right here on Smoothspin Records as well as iTunes, Amazon, or you can stream it for free on SoundCloud, YouTube, and Spotify.
