Mixtape: Labor Day 2015 by Frank Data

We’re excited to announce a new series of DJ mixes called the Smoothspin Essential Mix. For each major holiday of the year, we’re commissioning a different DJ, band, or musician to curate a special DJ mix destined to be the soundtrack of your holiday weekend.

The first mix in the series comes to us from Los Angeles producer and DJ, Frank Data. Influenced by the Doors, DJ Z-Trip, and Elvis, Frank Data spent his formative years mixing beats, digging through crates, and geeking out in his room. Known for his eclectic indie rock, electronic, hip-hop, and pop mixes, he’s a regular on the LA scene – including high-profile residencies at Pearl’s and The Standard on the Sunset Strip. When he’s on stage, he says he wants everyone to feel the song, feel the message, and keep the party going.

Frank Data’s mix is a perfect balance of indie pop, dance floor hits, and obscure old school gems. It starts out mellow and builds into a rolling series of dance floor bangers. It’s the perfect soundtrack for your Labor Day BBQ, boat trip at the lake, or late night dance party in a crowded Mission District apartment.
